May 2021 – Team members and franchise owners from four DUCTZ offices gave back to their community by donating an air duct cleaning to Habitat for Humanity Huron Valley for a newly renovated home in Ypsilanti, Michigan.  After completing the DUCTZ training program this month, the new DUCTZ of Rockingham County (New Hampshire) and DUCTZ of the Metro East (Illinois) offices joined forces with DUCTZ of Southeast Michigan and DUCTZ of S. Cincinnati-Covington to complete the duct cleaning in the two-story, three-bedroom home.

Many children living in Habitat for Humanity homes have asthma or allergies, and air duct cleaning reduces several common triggers for both asthma and allergies. Improving the indoor air quality prior to a new family moving in is particularly beneficial since the history of these refurbished homes is not always clear, so it’s unknown whether there were dogs, cats, pests, rodents, or other triggers in the house previously. All of these factors, paired with the volume of construction debris left in the ductwork after Habitat’s renovations can be detrimental to the health of asthma- or allergy-prone children (or adults).

The home that the Rockingham County, Metro East, Southeast Michigan, and S. Cincinnati-Covington DUCTZ locations donated their air duct cleaning services to is just one of the many houses refurbished by Habitat for Humanity Huron Valley. The renovations and refurbishments for these types of projects typically include siding and roof, new front porch and rear deck, driveway, windows and doors, new kitchen with appliances, new furnace, and washer and dryer. A new family will soon be calling this house their home – complete with a backyard for children to play in.

DUCTZ partners with Habitat for Humanity in over 50 locations across the United States and into Canada. We’re honored to work together whenever possible to ensure that families moving into Habitat for Humanity homes can breathe a little easier and enjoy healthier indoor air quality as they begin their new chapter.
