School's Out: The Importance of Regular Home and School Air Duct Cleaning
Schools Out! Explore why regular home and school air duct cleaning is important for improving indoor air quality this summer.
Read MoreDUCTZ cleaning methods include source removal, meaning debris and non-adhered contaminates in the air ducts and HVAC system will be captured in a HEPA filtered vacuum or collection unit. Air Duct Cleaning removes this debris while working to reduce asthma and allergy triggers. The 9 top triggers that contribute to asthma attacks and allergy symptoms are:
Air Duct Cleaning when done properly is an involved process. The cleaning process should include the air handler, blower motor, indoor coil as well as the air ducts. If all components are not cleaned, the ductwork will become re-contaminated immediately upon powering the HVAC system on. With that, an Air Duct Cleaning on a typical home (2000 sq. ft. with 12-15 registers and one air handler) takes a minimum of 3-4 hours to complete.
The air duct cleaning process begins with setting up the job, bringing in the HEPA-filtered equipment and protecting the floors and furniture with drop cloths. The HVAC system will be accessed through registers and access holes, starting from the furthest point on the supply side, agitating the debris toward the main trunk line. Then the same goes on the return side, usually the dirtiest side of the system. Lastly, the air handler, blower and indoor coil are cleaned and new filters are installed before the HVAC system is powered back on. DUCTZ technicians complete a post-cleaning checklist before cleaning up the jobsite and loading equipment back onto the truck.
DUCTZ recommends regular Air Duct Cleaning for a residential home every 2-5 years, with air handler cleaning every year. These recommendations depend on the size of the HVAC system, age of the home and system, the amount of people and pets living in the space and whether occupants suffer from asthma or allergies. For older homes, homes with pets, or occupants with asthma or allergies, you should consider more frequent cleaning intervals.
According to the National Air Duct Cleaners Association (NADCA), the recommended HVAC cleaning and inspection schedule is:

Benefits of having your air ducts cleaned include:
Improve the health of your home and family:
According to the EPA, the air inside the average home is approximately five times more polluted than the air outside. Pollutants can cause poor indoor air quality thus causing dizziness and headaches which also can aggravate allergies and asthmatic conditions.
Energy Savings:
When dirt and debris are removed from ductwork and HVAC system, motors, fans and coils work more efficiently, lowering your energy costs.
Still a skeptic? That’s ok. Let DUCTZ prove it to you – in a few ways:
DUCTZ never uses the “too good to be true coupon.” You know what we are talking about…that “Whole house air duct cleaning for $99” coupon. Well, that is not possible. An air duct cleaning is a lengthy, involved process that if done correctly should take about 3-4 hours for an average 2000 sq. ft. house. If you are opting for the best deal, an air duct cleaning done INCORRECTLY could cause damage to your furnace or system by pushing dirt and debris into your blower, fan or coil and a clogged furnace could overheat the heat exchanger.
DUCTZ provides a PICTURE PERFECT report to each customer – a report including before and after photos of each project to insure a job well done.
DUCTZ adheres to the EPA Post-Consumer Checklist for Air Duct Cleaning as well as industry standards established by the National Air Duct Cleaner’s Association (NADCA).
Generally speaking, if the register covers, grills and air filters are dirty, so is the system. Your local DUCTZ office can perform a complete assessment specific to your HVAC system needs and provide you with a written report that includes photos of areas of concern.
